The Urostomy Association (UA) was formed to assist people who are about to undergo or have undergone surgery resulting in a Urinary Diversion/heal Conduit.

The Association was founded at the Christie Hospital in 1971 by a group of people who realised the special needs of persons with a Urostomy.

Aims

The aims and objectives of the Association are fairly widespread, covering many aspects of a person’s life.

We assist in whatever way we can, such as helping patients in the period both before and after the operation with such counselling as maybe necessary with regard to appliances, housing, work situations, marital problems and assisting them to resume as full a life as possible with every confidence.

Meetings

The Association is administered by a National Executive but each brand holds its own local meetings two or three times a year. At local meetings guest speakers are invited and medical and non-medical topics are discussed. Advice is also available from trained nurses in Stoma Care and Appliance Manufacturers’ Representatives are invited to attend, display their products and answer any questions that members may have relating to their appliance.

House meetings may also be arranged between individual branch members.

Visiting

Selected members of the Association who are appropriately instructed are available to visit by request.
