Victim Support is the national charity which helps people cope with crime. It offers practical help and emotional support to anyone who has been affected by crime. The service is totally free and confidential and the crime does not have to have been reported to the police.

Victim Support can be contacted via its network of 274 local Schemes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, telephone numbers can be found in the phone book. The Victim Supportline offers referals to local Schemes as well as advice over the telephone. It is staffed every day from 9am – 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 7pm on weekends, calls are charged at local rate. The number to call is:

The Witness Service helps people who are called to give evidence in court. It offers advice and support to both prosecution and defence witnesses. The services is currently available in every Crown Court and some Magistrates Courts (the service will be available in all Magistrates Courts by 2001).
